GPLink’s industry-leading remote monitoring equipment has been successfully installed on hundreds of Cat powered vessels throughout the world, and now we’re proud to showcase the evolution of our product and our first integration on a non-Caterpillar power package.
In March, Spencer Yachts splashed their latest build, an 87-foot sportfish yacht named “Bangarang”, equipped with twin MTU M94 2600 horsepower diesels capable of propelling this mammoth vessel to a cruising speed of 40 knots. These powerful engines are also the first MTU’s to receive the GPLink Remote Monitoring system. Factory-installed, the GPLink system presented some minor challenges and differences from a typical Cat engine install but working closely with technicians from MTU and Western Branch Diesel, all of GPLink’s capabilities were successfully implemented.
The owner of “Bangarang”, Dale Murphy, was drawn to GPLink for its vessel tracking capabilities and vast array of components monitoring and alarms offered. Although the hardware and components used during installation on this MTU powerplant differ slightly from the Cat diesel components, all functionality – including all engine alarms remain present for the customer. On her maiden voyage to the Dominican Republic, “Bangarang” was tracked and looked after through the GPLink tracking software. Since returning stateside, we are delighted to see the success of this pilot install and greatly look forward to installing many more GPLink systems on other MTU powered vessels.
It has been a pleasure to work with Spencer Yachts over the years, and with the broadening of our engine portfolio, we hope to provide our remote monitoring equipment and services on more of the custom-built vessels in the region. Salesman Steve Smith has been working with several other boat builders throughout North Carolina who are anxious to provide installs for their MTU powered vessels. We are delighted to be able to call such great and renowned Outerbanks builders our customers, which include Scarborough Boatworks, Paul Mann Custom Yachts, Blackwell Boatworks, Ritchie Howell and many others in the region surrounding the Wanchese, NC custom sportfish hub.
“Bangarang” is just the beginning of GPLink’s quest for greater diversity as we have plans to install GPLink Remote Monitoring on generator sets and branch out into monitoring other marine diesel engines brands, including Cummins, MAN Diesel, John Deere and Volvo Penta. In a few years, this landmark install will be looked back on as the first of many evolutionary steps we will have taken to provide word-class monitoring for all high horsepower systems across the globe.
